OC Supervisor Races Driven by Parents Who Say They Were Ignored by the System
Now Running to Confront It

Lucy Vellema is running for Orange County Board of Supervisors, District 5 to bring transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership back to county government.

As a lifelong educator, school principal, mentor, and community advocate, Lucy understands how county decisions impact real families — not in theory, but in daily life.

Lucy’s advocacy has always been rooted in these values:
  • Show up
  • Tell the truth
  • Protect the vulnerable
  • Demand accountability
  • Do the work, even when it’s difficult

Running for Orange County Board of Supervisors is a continuation of that work—not a departure from it.
Lucy believes safe communities start with accountable leadership, and she is committed to bringing transparency, ethics, and responsibility to county government.
Lucy Vellema is not a career politician. She is a mom, teacher, counselor, and school principal who has spent decades working directly with children, families, and frontline professionals across Orange County.
Her career has been built on:
  • Managing complex public budgets
  • Protecting children and supporting families
  • Holding systems accountable when they fail
  • Leading with fairness, integrity, and transparency

Lucy is running for Orange County Supervisor, District 5 because she believes government must serve the people — not protect itself

This school year Lucy has been mentoring students at the school she teaches at alongside the DAs office for the OC Gang and Prevention program. Pictured with Lucy is Deputy District Attorney Shannon Back.

THIS IS MY "WHY"

• Protecting Children, Families, and Seniors I am running because I have seen firsthand how system failures harm families and vulnerable individuals. As an educator, school principal, mentor, and parent, I believe no child, senior, or family should ever be ignored or harmed by broken or unaccountable systems.

• Transparency in Decision-Making I am running because secrecy allows harm to go unchecked. Open government, clear oversight, and accessible public processes are essential to restoring trust and preventing abuse of power.

• Ethical, Law-Abiding Institutions I am running because authority must come with responsibility. County agencies must follow the law, uphold ethical standards, and face real consequences when they fail the people they are meant to serve.

• Responsible Use of Taxpayer Dollars I am running because every public dollar should serve a clear public purpose. As a school principal who managed complex budgets, I bring fiscal discipline and a commitment to measurable outcomes that reflect real community needs—not political interests.

I am running to protect families, demand transparency, and ensure Orange County government works for the people it serves.
